Forever Young

Keep your eyes open

I've been shopping a lot. Unfortunately. I think the shop attendants at Lot One must seriously love my mum and I a lot. :P

And I don't usually keep very updated about what's the in-trend, but I can't help noticing that this season's trends seem to overlap a lot with what I like to wear - e.g. lace, pastel colours, peter pan collars...

And it's so annoying. I mean the good thing is that I get to buy a lot of clothes that I like. But the bad thing is everyone is wearing the same thing so I feel distinctly unoriginal. -.-

Like how for JC prom I bought a lace dress before the craze about lace started, then by the time prom rolled around the whole world was wearing lace... Luckily I had the foresight to buy from a small boutique if not I'll 撞衫 with everybody!

And i totally need more shoes. I currently have 3 pairs of shoes for work - black, white and nude (boring I know). The only pair that's comfortable is the white/cream pair, but it doesn't go with EVERY outfit and often I have to resort to the terribly painful black pair. :( Why is it so hard to find shoes that are both comfortable and look nice???

Been listening to this song haha. I like it cos not only does it relate to The Hunger Games, but it also has greater significance (just like Hunger Games). I see the book and song as representations of adolescents' coming-of-age crisis.

Everybody's waiting
For you to breakdown
Everybody's watching
To see the fallout
Even when you're sleeping, sleeping
Keep your eye, eyes open

Isn't that what the real world out there is like? Kids grow up coddled in the greenhouse called school, then one day they are thrown into the arena where everyone's clawing upwards for what they want in life. And in order to survive, you inevitably turn into one of them.

It's a dog eat dog world. And we're standing on the brink.

One of my favourite songs of all time. Somehow at this point in time it resonates particularly strongly. But my favourite part is actually the conversation after this scene (which I can't find on youtube, WHY???)

Fa Zhou: My, what beautiful blossoms we have this year. But look, this one's late. But I'll bet that when it blooms, it will be the most beautiful of all.

Not trying to be ego here, but I'd like to be the late blossom. :)

Tonight I read something that really resonated with me (from errr kevin sim's blog):

Ex-counselee, from years ago, just dropped me an email; maybe he has good advice for all during this rather trying period of waiting for the rest of your life –

“… One last thing. So a whole bunch of students might be coming to you telling you about how they got accepted, rejected, or how they did well in As. For those whiny ones or the arrogant ar**s, you can tell them this. After my rejects and waitlists, I was humbled. Most people will say that it is not a good feeling. Why not? Because it hurts their ego. Ego is the bane of human existence.

Tell them that when life is sweet, say thank you and celebrate. When life is bitter, say thank you and learn.

So thank you, Kevin.

A couple of posts ago, I remember mourning the lack of failures in our lives. And just one month on reality is quickly catching up with all of us. And in a way I'm glad that life has given us an opportunity to learn and grow.

Excited for what the future holds. :)

There are times to keep your eyes open, but for now I shall close my eyes and sleep in peace. After all, the games have yet to start! And even if one day the gunshot sounds and the race begins, I don't want to lose sight of who I am inside.

"Only I keep wishing I could think of a way to... to show the Capitol they don't own me. That I'm more than just a piece in their games”
- Peeta Mallark, The Hunger Games

(Actually I wish Eyes Open came out earlier - I'd totally have listened to it at night to keep myself awake xD)

Favourite favourite quote <333:
"The flower that blooms in adversity... is the most rare and beautiful of them all."
- The Emperor of China, Mulan

Thanks for reading :)
