Watched this series during the dec hols (cough now you know what I wasted my one month one :P). Liked it cos i like historical drama, and there was a lot of romance and all. :D The music, costumes and cinematography was very 唯美 as well, which you can probably see in the MV that I posted. Plus there are many pretty actresses dressed up in really glam costumes, so it was altogether very 养眼. :D It was enough to make up for the sometimes -_- plot, i.e. the parts involving one-dimensional antagonists whose scenes i kinda skipped oops. :P
I was impressed by some characters which were very well-developed though, such as 吕后, who was the main antagonist for the first part but somehow the audience only remembers being impressed by her strength of personality and vision for her country, and forgives her for all the screwed-up things that she does. I always love it when both sides of a character is played out. It makes them so much more believable and impactful. :)
This series has a whole lot of 专情 guys omg. Like so many guys are willing to sacrifice the throne for the woman they love. One guy who gave up his throne to escape the confines of the palace, came back to the exact same place that he risked his life to escape, just so he can stand by the woman he loved, eventually giving up his life to help her husband. Another guy spent his entire life missing the woman he loved after she died because of him.
The 2 main characters, which is the couple i like the most, supported each other mutually throughout their lives. He loved her single-heartedly although he was the emperor and gave up the "right" to possess many concubines out of his love for her. She reciprocated by committing her entire life to his well-being and to help him in his work.
