very random thoughts :)

Haha after the very emo/attempt-at-being-angrily-passionate previous post, for this post i shall write some very lame and random stuff. :) Especially as after exams yesterday i don't feel like being hardworking anymore! (Even though i have to hand in chinese file this week and i have like half a year of unfiled 作业 or whatever scattered in different corners of my room.) But today was reasonably slack with no science lesson and we watched video during english, ss plus geog. Which is possibly why i am in a good mood now. :)Ok so seeing how i am already having such headaches despite being a 新上任 SL for about 2 weeks, i have decided to commission a book entitled "The Survival Guide to Being a CO Sectional Leader: Step-by-step solution with real-life case studies!" That is, of course, once i manage to secure the funds. But i am sure it will be an enormous help to the future generations of SLs, being a non-fictional documentation of the trials and tribulations of SL-ship and a guide as to how to lead your section towards the golden path of success, and with true success stories!!!! *excited screams*
So, the book will look something like this:
Chapter 1: Points to Take Note
So, you have just become an SL! The first step, is of course to assess the situation and identify areas of concern. Examples of ways to aid in your thinking include drawing a concept map (which i did cos it works for me, both in this and in mugging for academics), annotated text or whatever way you prefer. *Include a template with basic sub-headings or maybe even a sample copy* If this includes sensitive information that you will not like anyone else to know (especially your section), then put it in a notebook labelled CLASSIFIED. (Not proven to work, though.) But the most important thing to note is to develop your action plan (based on your areas of concern) according to the characteristics of your section, e.g. demographics, attitude, achievement level, etc. It has to be TAILORED to fit. :)
Chapter 2: Striking a First Impression
Being an SL requires delicate interpersonal skills (which i kind of do not possess) as you need to maintain a balanced relationship with both your batchmates as well as your juniors, which sounds simple but can prove to be VERY troublesome in practice. Towards batchmates, you have to be friendly (so that they are willing to support you - V. Important) but yet do not let them undermine your authority (or juniors won't listen to you - V. Irritating). Towards juniors you have to be reasonably friendly (or pretend to be - so that they are not over-scared such that they don't come for prac) but you must appear confident and firm as well so that they will respect you and listen to you. Even if you are scared, you must not show it (remember: confidence and poise).
*Personal anecdote: I used to be overly nice so no one listens to me, now i am working towards being more firm, but as of the present i think i am neither here nor there. :( Must learn from people like Koh.
Chapter 3: How to Lead your Section
This is probably the most important part in this guidebook. Kind of difficult to say anything here, since i am like very very lost as to this aspect. But stuff to put in this chapter will include detailed action plans for "how to bug ponners to come for prac", "how to minimise slacking and maximise productivity during xiaozu", "how to get your section to keep quiet", "what to do about poor jibengong in your section", just to name a few. There will also be exercises that you can do with your section to improve rhythm, 默契 and whatever other stuff. The information in this chapter will be drawn from true experience of ex- and current SLs. COMPILATION FROM VARIOUS SOURCES!!!! What a comprehensive guide!
Chapter 4: Keeping your Section Happy
Ok keeping your section happy is directly linked to the interpersonal skills part, but in this chapter we will address a more concrete aspect - Welfare. A bonded section will naturally produce better music than a non-bonded one, so a welfare system aiming to bridge differences and encourage the establishment of good relationships is very important. This includes events such as celebrations of birthdays/special events as well as sectional outings, which allow us to get to know each other better through spending time together. :)
Chapter 5: Trivial/Miscellaneous
Haven't thought of any important points yet. But can include lame stuff like a survey on the handphone bills of SLs or "how to cope with physical and emotional fatigue - a psychologist's point of view". Haha.
Chapter 6: Important SLs of this century
Success stories of SLs from different walks of life. (Such as me, even though i haven't succeeded yet, but i trust i will. Lol.)
Conclusion:
Blah blah blah. Will be something very cheem.
Appendix:
Transcripts of interviews/surveys with SLs? xoxoxoxo
Hmmm I think that will be the end of my first draft. I realise the whole thing is very long but each chapter gets significantly shorter as we go down (i think cos i got very tired of typing this). But anyway LOOK OUT FOR THE ACTUAL PUBLICATION OF THIS BOOK. Which can occur anytime in the following century. Provided you are not dead yet. Or i am not dead yet. I am accepting applications for editor (salary: *drumroll* S$0.00 - to 2 d.p.) as well as public feedback through my tagboard. --->
Ok so if you actually took the trouble to read through this entire thing, i hope you are amused. :) Or maybe it sounds too much like an exposition essay? I really can't tell.
By the way, I forgot the most important part of my book: THE END.
